You can remove accounts you’ve created, but you can’t entirely get rid of them or log off Messenger. Keep in mind that at least one account must be operational. You won’t be able to delete the account you’re currently using. Tap your profile picture in the upper left corner of Chats.

Now that you know how to quit Facebook Messenger, no one will be able to access your profile or send you messages in existing conversations. If you only wish to keep the Messenger service, you’ll need to deactivate your Facebook account once again.

To cancel Messenger, you must first terminate your Facebook account. If you don’t want to go that far, you may disable your active status or simply uninstall the program. You can reactivate your account by logging back into Messenger or Facebook once you’ve deactivated it.

After you’ve deactivated your Facebook account, you can continue to use Messenger. If you had a Facebook account and deactivated it, using Messenger will not reactivate your Facebook account, and your Facebook friends will still be able to message you via Messenger.
